The Silent Dawn

Today, the seven-artist exhibition The Silent Dawn opens at the Barlach Art Museum in Germany. As a memorial museum dedicated to the German national treasure-level artist Ernst Barlach, Barlach holds a position in Germany comparable to what Picasso holds in Spain and Van Gogh in the Netherlands.

This exhibition has received strong support from Professor Ni Shaofeng of the University of Hamburg. Curator Wolf gave a wonderful and humorous sharing on the overall planning and presentation of the exhibition. Andreas, the Academic Director, with his profound knowledge of art history and philosophy, provided an extremely detailed analysis and explanation of the exhibition’s theme and the artists’ works, highly praising the artists’ creations. He also elaborated on the clear artistic context, allowing the on-site audience to feel the charm of art, art's stories, the glory of truth behind art, art's cohesive power, and art's cross-border language. This experience enabled German audiences to perceive the ideological resonance and artistic dialogue between Chinese and German artists.

Art knows no borders; like a silent dawn, it brings hope and light to people!

The lamp on its stand

Shines faithfully

Not bright or grand

The dark night murmurs softly:

"How vast my darkness is—

Boundless and endless."

The candle flickers gently

The wind sneers maliciously:

"I can put you out

Without lifting a finger."

The dawn, not far away

Watches quietly.

The artists in this exhibition

Are like the silent dawn—

They will bring viewers

A sense of impending radiant light

Pointing to the future and the distance

Where beauty and hope coexist

And light walks hand in hand with the future.

Artist Yu Hanyu takes the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau as his carrier, using colors and lines to compose a magnificent movement of life—one that is resilient, profound, and towering. His research topic at Columbia University, "The Power of Art," mirrors the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the sacred mountains of Tibet he paints: majestic in momentum and as stable as Mount Tai. After nearly a hundred trips to Tibet for sketching, he has created abstract paintings that capture the plateau’s grandeur—lines as sharp as axe cuts and knife slashes, conveying a masculine beauty.

From a unique female perspective, artist Wei Lirong draws inspiration from the tangible beauty of nature, transcending time and space to reach the prim grandeur of prehistoric times. Her symbolic expressions are like "dancers of life"; the power of her praise and eulogy stirs the soul. Her works carry profound philosophical reflections and incisive inquiries into human nature, prompting people to ponder: How should we balance the coexistence of humans with nature, society, and their spiritual homeland?

Artist Qin Zhen is a cross-disciplinary genius. She has turned her "Chouyi" (abstract-expressionist) works into her own clothing brand—wearable art that "walks on the body." She fully leverages her artistic strengths in technology and spirituality. For this exhibition, she presents her Yao Medicine series A Compendium of Herbs, which features plants from China’s magical Yao ethnic medicine. Following her consistent artistic style, the series perfectly combines colors, color blocks, bold lines, and gentle lines, presenting "Chouyi" (a variant of "concrete + abstract"). While adopting contemporary art concepts, it also integrates diverse influences—just like Qin herself, a "resolute rose." Her research on Yao ethnic medicine’s eye diagnosis, Yao herbs, and her in-depth interpretation of life’s dimensions make her and her works vivid, vibrant, and radiant.

Gerd Leins

Gai Te Lans (Gerd Leins) is a contemporary German artist, member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de España, poet, racing driver, and entrepreneur. He has published two German poetry collections, held exhibitions on multiple occasions in Beijing, China and at Northwest Minzu University, China, and staged solo exhibitions in Tokyo, Japan, Montpellier in southern France, and Barcelona, Spain. He has also been interviewed by the media numerous times. During the pandemic, his "Artistic Counter-Current Series" exhibitions (held in Hamburg, Germany and Beijing, China) attracted widespread social attention and acclaim. On his journey in contemporary art, Gai Te Lans expresses his ideas and reflections on history and reality through poetry with abstract language, paintings in the formal language of conceptual expressionism, and sculptural installations.

Artist Gerd Leins infuses his works with depth, introspection, and feelings of remorse and anxiety toward life, the world, war, and human sin. With the heart of a poet, he serves as a vessel that bears the weight of human souls, expressing profound love and compassion. In his War Mirrors series, Gerd Leins transforms the faces lost in war into monuments, paying tribute and mourning for the young lives claimed by war.

Chen Yinan, a post-95s young artist, adopts the perspective of an observer and experiencer. Bathed in the radiance of God, he conveys insightful wisdom through relaxed, humorous brushstrokes and lines—making viewers fall into contemplation amid involuntary smiles. Art is sometimes like a beacon or a candle: when people are trapped in dimness, it points the way. Who could resist drawing near to the light? In the night, eyes that see in darkness search for light—the great light that dawns with the silent dawn.

Yu Mengmeng

Mengmeng Yu (Rico Yu) is a landscape painter, calligrapher, and officially recognized National First-Rate Artist from China, currently based in New York. His work breathes new life into traditional Chinese ink painting, blending classicalshanshui aesthetics with contemporary expression and a global vision.

Trained from an early age under the guidance of his father, renowned calligrapher Yu Hanyu, Mengmeng developed a strong foundation in Chinese calligraphy and traditional landscape painting. He holds a degree in Design & Media from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore (2009–2013), and later refined his skills in the Li Tiesheng Landscape Studio at the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University (2016–2019), one of the most prestigious art institutions in China.

Since relocating to the United States, Mengmeng has embraced a new chapter in his artistic journey, with a deep desire to expand the reach and resonance of Chinese ink art in a Western cultural context. This aspiration has led him to explore iconic American landscapes, most notably Yosemite National Park, where he conducted plein air studies and created a body of work that bridges East and West. In these paintings, the vastness of the American wilderness finds spiritual dialogue with the poetic brushstrokes of Chinese tradition.

His artistic style, grounded in the“accumulated ink” technique, captures the monumental essence of glaciers, sacred mountains, and wilderness spaces. His landscapes are not only visual representations but also meditations on the relationship between humanity and nature, memory and movement, tradition and transformation.

Mengmeng Yu has exhibited widely, with solo shows in San Francisco and Shenzhen, and has participated in international group exhibitions in New York, Florence, Germany, the Czech Republic, and throughout China. His works continue to evolve with his global perspective, while staying true to the profound heritage of Chinese brush painting.

With a growing presence in the U.S. and abroad, Mengmeng is committed to sharing the timeless power of ink with new audiences, and to fostering cross-cultural dialogue through the language of landscape.

Artist Yu Mengmeng is a young creator who persists in inheriting and practicing traditional Chinese ink wash painting. While working in modern design, she is obsessed with the spirit of traditional Chinese ink wash, drawing rich nourishment from it and transforming it into inner life force. As the saying goes, "The virtuous delight in mountains, the wise in waters"—in the ethereal realm of her works, one can see a noble soul.

Ge Lu

Founder of Contemporary Energy Aesthetics; Member of the Royal Spanish Art Association.

With the soul of a poet, artist Ge Lu uses colors and lines to depict the images of all living beings and the formless forms of the universe.
